John Brown's Speech

Unfortunately John Brown's Speech: http://education.ucdavis.edu/new/stc/lesson/socstud/railroad/benet.htm is as relevant today, as it was in 1859.

I've gone back and read a little more about John Brown, the massacres, and Harper's Ferry.

I still can't decide what I think about his methods although I admire his courage.

My way has always been to try to work within the system but of course I didn't live in the 1850's when this took place.

I'll have to give it more thought obviously. Maybe sometimes the end does justify the means or to really cover you up with cliches, desperate times call for desperate measures or to quote Rumsfeld "you go to war with the weapons you have".

He had 20 kids. Now that I didn't know.

Obviously any sensible person doesn't resort to violence at the drop of a hat, but it seems that John Brown didn't resort to violence until Bullies began tampering with the Elections in Kansas.

I think you're right. I didn't read all the details on Lawrence KS and my school years are far behind me. You've got me hooked if I can only find the time.

I think I read the Benet years ago and of course I know the poem.
